She then smashes her hair against the beams and they all then she grabs her hair and gives it a pull and she opens her hand to show that no hair fell from her head. These two actions represent that it increases hair strength.

Target Audience: Children from 9yrs.-11yrs.old

1. Symbolism: The ad is trying to say that some children may want toys and e.t.c, but others just want a roof above their head. I think that Covenant House is like an orphanage that house children from the street, making them happy.

2. Body Language:  I think the message in the ad should be big and it should have a contrast to catch your eye before you look at the picture

3. Camera Angle: The picture is taken from the side and shows the full picture

4. Special Effects: The house in the back looks old and abandoned, which means that this place is a run down area. Any type of metal you see is rusted. It looks kind of dark so I think the picture is in an alley way. Since the alley way is dark, rusted metal,unclean.I think he's not the only child who needs a shelter.

5. Lighting and Color:  The part where the message is dark in the background, while the message is in light colors. Above the message part there is not much of contrast. Except the box is bright  while surrounding the box there is a dark background. So the 2 things that will catch the person's eye, will be the message and the main picture.

6.  Beauty and Standing: I think this part in the deconstruction of an ad would be the hardest part. I couldn't really find some thing in the ad for this part.

7.  Target and Graphics: The ad is trying to say that some children may want toys and e.t.c, but others just want a roof above their head. I also think that the ad is trying to make kids to stop being greedy about things they want, instead they should feel affectionate for the kids on the road who don't have as much as other rich  kids.

Summary of "The Giver" by Lois Lowry

  Communities,  each community there are strict rules, like language. Jonas feels apprehensive of ceremony of 12 saying this at dinner table.

Physch: Pilot

On Friday we watched an episode of Pysch.  Pysch is a show with mystery and comedy at the same time. On Friday we watched the first case. As you know in every mystery there needs to be a problem. The crime or the problem is, there was a family, the Mc Callums, a very rich family. Their son Camden McCallum was kidnapped for ransom money. Also another element in a mystery is that in every crime there must be someone to solve it. In Pysch it was Shawn and Gus. Shawn was actually the detective and his partner and best friend was Gus. Another element is that every crime needs a villian. The strange thing is that the villian was Camden and his kidnapper was Camden's friend Ourso.  Camden actually planned the whole thing out. His motive was to get some of his father's money. He needed the money badly, because he couldn't get any jobs.  In some mysteries there is a surprise ending and luckily there was a surprise ending in Pysch. The surprise ending was that Camden's father accidentally killed his son. And when Camden's friend Ourso wanted to drop off the ransom money he had seen that Camden's father had killed Camden. In the end Camden's dad killed Ourso and made it look like sucide. Camden's dog saw all of this happening, so that truly makes him a witness. The dog then realized that Camden's father was not a nice person, so the dog bit him. Camden's father tried to cover the wound with a bandage, but Shawn had already realized this. The wound acts as evidence.

The 6 Elements of a Mystery

Crime: The crime is the main problem in the mystery.

As you can see here the crime is that the man, who is

the villain is threatening the cat who is the victim.














Investigator, Private Eye, Sleuths: The people that are paid 
to solve the crime, a classic example of this is Sherlock Holmes.                 

Villain, Bad Guy, Criminals: These people are the ones who commit the crime. In this picture the person at the right with the gun is the villain .


Victim: A victim is the villain's target, or one of his/her targets. In this picture it clearly shows that the victim is the one on the left.










Evidence: Items that are found by the investigator
to get closer to the mystery. In this picture it shows
that they found the bullets from the gun and they store it 
in the evidence bag.
























Clues: An idea that will lead the 
investigator closer to the mystery.  Finger prints

are one classic example of clues.

Mr. Monk and the Curse of the Voodoo

Today we watched an episode of monk called "Mr. Monk and the Curse of the Voodoo." This episode is about when they find a baseball hit an old lady in the head. Later on her family comes to collect all the items from the house and they find a package. It is called a voodoo doll. A voodoo doll is a bad luck charm, there will always be a name on the doll, so if the person who is the person on the doll, looks at the doll they will die. This is what superstitious people believe in. 

Then a few days later. Another person died again, but this time there had been a lightning strike. When Mr. Monk arrives on the scene he finds a package and in it there is another voodoo doll showing that the person is struck by lightning.

The next victim was a rich golfer. When Mr. Monk arrives on the scene he finds a voodoo doll with a replica of the victim having a heart attack. As Mr.Monk is investigating the house he finds a lot of good luck charms spread out around the house. When he finds an upside down horse shoe, this means it is bad luck. Mr. Monk then sees a lady who appears to be the victim's niece Angeline.

Suddenly a fourth victim occurred this was Mr. Monk's assistant, but she wasn't killed when she looked at the doll, It showed that her head was cut off. Since she was superstitious she believed in voodoo doll's, so she never slept, until this case was solved. She calls a potions master who is superstitious too, his name was Reverend Mc Jorgenson. SO when he finished creating the potion, Mr. Monk's assistant thought that she was supposed to drink it, instead of applying it to her neck. The potion had some chemicals that she wasn't supposed to drink. Then when they called the ambulance, the paramedic said there was no room for Mr. Monk. The paramedic was the same person he met before Angeline. So he followed the ambulance with Mc Jorgenson's car. Then a lot of things started to make sense in Mr. Monk's mind.

It turns out that maker of the voodoo dolls was Angeline, but she wasn't the one who murdered the lady and the person who was struck by lightning. She actually murdered her rich uncle with a drug that supposed to look like he was killed by heart attack. No one noticed this because she was on every scene when the victims were murdered, because she was a paramedic.

Plastiki

The Plastiki is a boat made out of recycled materials. The bottom of the boat is made of 2litre plastic bottles. In total there are 36,000 plastic bottles on the ship. The leader of this project is a person named David de Rothschild. He wanted to create the Plastiki, because there was garbage in the ocean and if you collected all the garbage in the ocean you could create some thing spectacular! Like the Plastiki. The construction of the boat started 3 years ago in 2007. The sail is also made out of plastic bottles. The technology used to create the Plastiki was unimanginable! They used Solar Panels to power the boat and the backup power for the engine is by pedalling a bycycle to create power for the engine.

The Plastiki set sail on moday and it's route is to cross the Atlantic Ocean

2. The French takes over in the 1600's and increased production in crops, sugarcane and e.t.c.

5. In 1957 Dictator Francois Duvalier ruled over Haiti. The deep poverty was hidden behind the strong government. Whoever argued or disagreed with Duvalier ended up dead!!! Haitians left the country for safety.

6. The population in Haiti is 95% black and 5% white. Extended family members live in a small house with other members of the family. So it's very cramped.

7. Mostly Haitians speak French, because the French rule Haiti.

8. Carnival and New Year's are the most important holidays for most haitians.

9. Haiti produces coffee,sugarcane,rice,corn and e.t.c.

10. President elections happen every 5 years. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Haiti Update

Last Monday a terrible 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook Haiti. There is good news and of course bad news. The good news is that aid is being rushed into Haiti from all over the world, but there's a minute problem. All the aid that is being rushed into Haiti is by going through Haiti's main airport in Port -Au- Prince, the capital of Haiti. There is so much of aid to be sent through the airport and into Port-Au Prince that there may be an overload of people in the airport, which will obviously cause a very very very long line!!!

The second part of the bad news is that the death toll is rising by the minute. The giverment has to make a new solution with the airport.

As I am writing this post there are a lot of things going on in Haiti, RIGHT NOW!!!!! Such as the Dominican Republic are helping Haiti with the quake, or people are stealing goods from shops while other people are trying to take it away from them by murdering them!!!!!

Earthquake Shakes Haiti!!!!!!!!

On Tuesday a massive earthquake shook Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world and the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. Everyone was in shock. The quake measured a whopping 7.o magnitude on the richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was very near the capital of Haiti, Port-Au-Prince. The quake was only just 6 miles below the surface.

This is Haiti's most grandest building, the presidents palace. The first picture shows the President's Palace standing up tall and erect. Now look at second picture, which shows the destruction made by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake. The President's Palace has been sadly destroyed. Other important buildings have been destroyed, such as the cathideral and the Un Building.

She is one of the many people who have survived the earthquake, but she may be injured. She's probably crying because she has lost all her loved ones, her parents, her sibling and the rest of the of the family. Also she has no place to live once all the rebble is cleared up.

A drought is a period of a little amount of rainfall that falls to the Earth. The type of hardships a drought could cause is loss of human lives.

Bintaro Lama Field Trip

On the 12th of November we went to a special kampung located in Bintaro. The reason why this kampung is special is because they purify and treat their water. They get the water from a small polluted river located near the village. The bus journey from school to the Kampung was about one and a half hour. At first I thought, "how could the villagers live and drink the water that was so dirty?" I then learnt how they purify their own water. We visited three of the six stages of how they purify their own water.

The first stage which was station six that we visited was called Disinfection. There are 2 ways of making the water potable. They use a small tablet which is called "Aqua Tab." One Aqua tab can disinfect about 30 liters of water, but the setback is that you have to wait for 30 minutes before the Aqua tab dissolves in the water and disinfects it. The ingredients for the Aqua tab is chlorine and other chemicals. One strip of 6 aqua tabs cost Rp.6000. The second way the villagers used to purify their water is that they use a liquid called Air Rahmat . A few drops of Air Rahmat can disinfect 5 liters of water. The disadvantage is that you have to shake the water with the drops of Air Rahmat inside a container for 30 seconds.

The second stage that we visited which was station 2. Station 2 is about the importance of hygiene. The guide explained about what happens if you don't wash your after you have gone to the toilet. (\_/) There are 5 ways that the feces from the human waste that can contaminate

the food we eat. One way is by not washing your HANDS!!

Our final stage that we visited was station 4. Station 4 was about filtration,flocculation and sedimentation. First the villagers put a chemical inside. The name of the product is called PUR. PUR is used to collect the dirt particles in the water to make floc. One packet of PUR costs Rp.1000. Then the floc particles sink to the bottom of the container which is called sedimentation. Then they filter the water by inserting a clay pot in a bucket. They cover the hole in the clay pot by laying filter cloth. Then they pour the water with the floc particles in the water. The dirt gets trapped in the clay pot and the water flows through the cloth. This process is similar to the Water Treatment Plant.

Although the kampung was very dirty, the villagers were extremely kind to us. There is only one small school in the village and most of the children who live in the village can't afford education. I think it was a great learning experience for me. The most interesting part was when the children sang a song about the importance of washing your hands.

The Six Different Stages of the Water Treatmemt Plant

)n Thrusday, the 5th of November we 6th Graders went on a field trip to the Aetra Water Treatment Plant. It was about an hour and a half away drive from school. When we reached we went straight away to the Plant. There were six important stages that water from the river has to pass through before it is sent to the city.

The first stage is to separate the big pieces of garbage by a gate with holes then the smaller pieces of garbage are separated by another gate with smaller holes. This is very similar to the process of filtration. The second part of the first stage is that the water needs to be oxidized(aerate)

The second stage is to add alum to the water so the dirt particles clump to one another to form one big dirt particle, called floc. The process of this is called coagulation.

The third stage is when the larger floc particles settle to the bottom. At the Aetra Water Treatment Plant the water is stored in large tanks for the floc particles to settle at the bottom. This is known as sedimentation.

The fourth stage is the water goes through a series of filters. At the Aetra Water Treatment Plant, they use layers of sand,coal and gravel to filter the water. The process of water going through a series of filters is called filtration. While the water flows through the filters the other dirt particles including the floc particles are left outside while the water flows through. Think of it as a strainer instead of wanting spaghetti you want the water that boiled the spaghetti.

The fifth stage is called disinfection. Disinfection is when a disinfectant,such as chlorine or bleach is added to the water which kills any remaining germs,bacteria and harmful chemicals which cannot be seen.

And the last stage is when the water goes through inspection to see if all the machines are working to keep our water clean! In the lab they take water samples from the start of the week till the end of the week, so they can make comparisons from the water that they purified today and with another day.

Now you may think that it will take over an hour just to purify a liter of water, but let me tell you this the Aetra Water Treatment Plant produces over about 5,000 liters of treated water per second, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Think, how much litres of treated water would the Aetra Water Treatment plant produce in a day, if they produced about 5,000 litres per second?

Explanations of Evaporation, Condensation, Infiltration,Precipitation and Run-Off

1. Evaporation

Evaporation is the process when water is in it's liquid state turn into water vapor.

As you can see the water molecules are turning into water vapor

(water in it's gaseous state) from the heat of the sun.

2. Condensation

Condensation is the opposite of evaporation. Instead of water in it's liquid state turning into water vapor, it's water vapor turning into water in it it's liquid state. As you can see here condensation has appeared on the outside of a window. You can also there are many water droplets on the that indicates there is condensation on the outside of the window.

3. Precipitation

Precipitation is any form of water that falls to the ground, such as rain, hail,snow sleet and e.t.c.

As you can see in the picture rain is a form of precipitation. Precipitation occurs when the water droplets from condensation get bigger in size, and the air can no longer support them.

4. Infiltration

Infiltration occurs when water soaks into the ground from ground level. Some water will be soaked up by plant roots to help the plants grow, the rest will be stored underground this is known as ground water. As you can see in this picture the water from precipitation has been soaked up by the soil and is stored underground.

5. Run-Off

When Precipitation occurs and the water is not soaked by the soil the water moves forward through the rivers and ends back in the this is known as run-off. This is the most important part of the water cycle.

RED ALERT RED ALERT !!!! EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURED IN INDONESIA!!!

When Indonesia's in the Ring of Fire, Indonesia is bound to get earthquakes all the time. This was my first situation I've been in an earthquake!! It occurred on 2/9/2009 which was yesterday. The epicenter of the earthquake was 40 kilometers of the coast of Jasikmalaya, it measured 7.4 on the Richter Scale.



There were Tsunami Warnings near Jasikmalaya. In school we saw a big snake hiding for cover even before the earthquake had started because some scientists say that animals have a sixth sense to,sense small tremors before the earthquake so they know when the earthquake starts they will be safe! Unfortunately for us humans we don't have 6th sense.

Some of my friends were in the Library and they felt really dizzy!! Then they heard teachers shouting "EARTHQUAKE,... EARTHQUAKE!!!!!" I wonder if CNN or BBC has found out how many people are injured or dead. I checked on the news yesterday they said that they think about 40 people were reported dead. One other shocking thing I heard on the news is that they expect another earthquake to occur very soon!!!!!

Typhoon Morakat

At speeds of over a hundred miles per hour so big it can wipe out a whole city we're talking OPERATION: Typhoon Morakat!! This Typhoon is located in Taiwan . The typhoon mostly affected the south side of Taiwan. When the Typhoon struck Taiwan heavy rains came CRASHING down which caused an enormous mudslide.

Mudslides are caused when water soaks through the mud causing the

separation of mud(earth) from the rock of the mountain, then the mud slides

down the mountain. Rivers started overflowing which caused really deep floods and the water was moving at really high speeds. Buildings came crashing down from it's foundations!!!

This enormous typhoon affects on people's relatives and family members who perished during the typhoon and on people's homes which have disintegrated

I REALLY FEEL SORRY FOR THEM!!!
